Natural Resources
Despite its varied climate, the tropical savanna provides the world with a number of natural resources.
Agriculture
Many crops are grown in different savannas around the world. Some include cassava (a potato-like root primarily grown in Africa), peanuts, peppers, okra, eggplant, cucumber, watermelon, grains (ex. wheat, barley), corn, coffee, and beans (including soy).
Furthermore, the savannas are used as grazing land for livestock as they are primarily composed of various types of grasses. This, incidentally, is one threat to the savanna. |
Diversity
Many unique plants and animals find their home in this climate that are not found anywhere else in the world. With the rapidly reducing biome size globally, Mang of these species are threatened.
Oil
Oil is primarily drilled for in the savannas of Africa.
